black & white FILM PROCESSING WORKSHOP

District Darkroom love black and white film and we know you do too!

So, you’ve shot a roll of black and white film, now what do you do? Come to District Darkroom and discover what the art of black and white film processing is all about. Our friendly, expert instructors will guide you step by step to craft beautiful archival negatives.

Bring a shot roll of black & white 35mm film to class. (Not Ilford XP-2 which is colour processed C-41). We’ll teach you how to develop your film; from loading it into a tank, mixing the chemicals and developing.  When your film dries, we’ll show you how to create a contact sheet in the darkroom and send you home ready to explore the next part of the darkroom. Printing! 

Please Note: The workshop will include all developing chemicals and paper. All students are required to bring one roll of exposed/shot 35mm Black and white film.

Topics covered

  • Film processing: how to turn your exposed film into negatives for printing

  • Film developing chemistry, how it works, developing times, temperatures etc

  • How to make a contact print

What you need to know

  • All students are required to bring one roll of pre-shot 35mm black and white film

  • You will be provided photo paper to make the contact print and a negative sleeve for you film to take home at the end of the workshop

  • Please bring a small towel to use while in the darkroom

  • We will provide tea, coffee and light refreshments

  • Course Duration: 4 hours 9:00am to 1:00pm

  • Student Limit: 4

  • Cost*: $280 *workshops are non refundable. You are able to be rescheduled at no extra cost up to 24hrs before the workshop is due to start.
