Film photography meetup

Meet and share your work with other film photographers in Melbourne.

Do you sometimes feel that you are making your work in isolation?

While isolation can be a good thing to focus your mind on your creative vision, it can also be good to sometimes be in contact with community, to show and to see, to give feedback and to consider feedback. Our film photography meetup is an opportunity to do this.

Once a month we will host a film photographers meetup to give photographers an opportunity to get together with others who share your passion and to give an outlet other than social media to show your work, look at what others are doing and to get real feedback. The focus is on getting people to show something that they have done. The format or the media is not important just that it is film derived and that you have an interest in having a film photography community in Melbourne.

Bring along work prints, inkjets, polished folio pieces, scans on a laptop or ipad whatever you like. It is also fine to just come along to see and chat with other photographers. The meetup will kick off by getting a feel for how many people have work to share, giving everyone a chance to say something about what they have been doing and there will be an opportunity to move around and check out the work. It would also be great to have a quick look at any upcoming exhibitions and events of interest.

Periodically we will have a special presentation or theme, for example; slide night; or photobooks that have inspired you; or storing and presenting your work. There will be opportunity to contribute ideas for things you would like to see too.

Upcoming Meetups

Meetups are usually the second Wednesday of each month. The next meetups will be 9 October 2024, 13 November 2024 and 11 December 2024 . Location is 3rd Floor 69 Charles Street Coburg North Vic. Register to get updates and any changes that may become necessary.

Free event

This meetup is a free event for the film photography community. District Darkroom are hosting, but it is not about this business. Come along, share, participate, make it about the community, be part of the community.

Registration is just to get an idea of the number of people planning to attend. If we are in the happy situation of having more people attend than the space will allow, we will find an alternate venue in the Coburg or Brunswick area.
